Scindapsus truebii ‘Dark Form’ (Nearly Black Pothos) - with hoop

The Scindapsus truebii ‘Dark Form’, also known as the Nearly Black Pothos, is a rare and dramatic tropical vine treasured for its deep, almost black-green foliage with a velvety sheen. Native to Southeast Asia, this climbing or trailing plant makes a bold statement in any collection. 

Key Features:

Size: Indoors, Scindapsus truebii ‘Dark Form’ typically reaches 4–8 feet (120–240 cm) in length when allowed to trail or climb

Growth: Its leaves grow 2–4 inches wide and deepen in color with age and light. Provide a moss pole or trellis to encourage larger leaves and upward growth.

Pet Friendliness:

This plant is not pet-friendly.  It contains calcium oxalates, which can be toxic if ingested by cats, dogs, and other pets. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.

Care Instructions:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its rich coloring. Can adapt to medium light but avoid direct sun, which can scorch its leaves.

Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Overwatering may lead to root rot. Reduce watering frequency in winter.

Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity (50–70%). Consider a humidifier or pebble tray in drier environments.

Temperature: Maintain between 18°C–27°C. Protect from drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.

Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing peat, perlite, and orchid bark.

Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Do not fertilize in fall and winter.

Pruning: Trim vines to maintain shape or encourage fuller growth. Cuttings can be propagated easily in water or soil.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when root-bound. A support like a moss pole helps promote larger, more dramatic foliage.
