The Sansevieria Trifasciata, also known as the Green Snake Plant or Mother-in-Law’s Tongue, is a classic houseplant celebrated for its tall, sword-like leaves with striking green patterns and yellow variegation. Known for its air-purifying properties and hardy nature, this plant is perfect for homes and offices, bringing both style and functionality to your indoor spaces.
Key Features:
Size: Can grow up to 2–4 feet tall indoors, with leaves that reach up to 2–3 inches wide. Its upright growth habit makes it a space-saving choice for any room.
Growth: A slow-growing plant with an architectural form that adds vertical elegance to your space.
Pet Friendliness:
The Sansevieria Trifasciata is not pet-friendly. It contains saponins, which can be toxic to cats, dogs, and other pets if ingested. Keep it out of reach of pets and children to ensure their safety.
Care Instructions:
Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light, but is highly adaptable and can tolerate low-light conditions. It can also handle some direct sunlight, though prolonged exposure may cause leaf discoloration.
Watering: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common mistake, so water sparingly and ensure the pot has good drainage.
Humidity: Prefers average indoor humidity and doesn’t require additional misting, making it an excellent choice for most home environments.
Temperature: Grows best in temperatures between 16–29°C. Avoid exposure to cold drafts or temperatures below 10°C.
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus or succulent mix, to prevent waterlogging.
Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Feeding can be reduced or skipped in fall and winter.
Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when the plant outgrows its container. The roots prefer being slightly pot-bound.
Pro tip: Ensure to keep it's tips pointy. The plant will not grow if the tips are broken off.
