Polynesian Ivy is a beautiful trailing tropical plant loved for its soft, textured foliage and elegant cascading growth. The small oval leaves feature shades of silvery green with darker green margins and often have rich burgundy undersides, creating a striking display from every angle.
Key Features:
Perfect for hanging baskets, terrariums, or trailing from shelves, Polynesian Ivy is a moderate grower with trailing stems that can eventually reach 60 cm (2 ft) or more indoors. Its stems naturally root where they touch soil, making it easy to propagate and encouraging a full, cascading habit over time. Regular pinching helps create a denser, bushier plant
Pet Friendliness:

The plant is pet-friendly! It is non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Care Instructions:
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. It will tolerate medium light but may become less compact in lower light. Avoid prolonged direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the delicate foliage.
Water: Keep the soil lightly and evenly moist during the growing season, allowing only the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering slightly during winter, but do not allow the soil to dry out completely.
Humidity: This plant thrives in moderate to high humidity. It performs beautifully in terrariums or naturally humid rooms but can also adapt to average household humidity with consistent watering.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18–27°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Soil: Use a light, well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture. An indoor tropical mix with added perlite works well, as long as excess water drains freely.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Little to no fertilizer is needed during winter.
Pruning: Pinch back growing tips regularly to encourage fuller growth. Trim any leggy stems as needed, and use the cuttings for easy propagation.
Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant begins drying out quickly between waterings. Choose a pot only one size larger to avoid keeping the soil overly wet.
Pro Tip: Polynesian Ivy absolutely loves humidity. If you notice crispy leaf edges or slower growth, try placing it in a bathroom with natural light, near a humidifier, or grouping it with other tropical plants. It also makes an exceptional terrarium plant thanks to its love of warm, humid conditions and naturally creeping habit.
