Philodendron Rojo Congo

Philodendron ‘Rojo Congo’ is a bold tropical houseplant known for its large, glossy leaves and rich red-toned new growth. Fresh leaves emerge in shades of copper, burgundy, or deep red before gradually maturing to a lush, dark green. Colourful red stems add even more contrast and interest.

Its full, upright shape and dramatic foliage make Rojo Congo an excellent statement plant for homes, offices, plant stands, or bright indoor spaces.

The ones we have in store right now are reverted Birkins, so you will notice small white stripy lower leaves or plantlets in the pot with the larger Rojo Congo. 

Key Features:

Rojo Congo has a self-heading, upright growth habit rather than a trailing or climbing form. It can develop into a substantial, full plant indoors and may require more space as its leaves mature.

Pet Friendliness:

Not pet-friendly.  It contains calcium oxalates, which can be toxic to cats, dogs, and other pets if ingested. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.

Care Instructions:

Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid harsh direct sun, which may scorch the leaves.

Watering: Water when the top portion of soil has dried out. Keep the soil lightly moist, but never soggy.

Humidity: Average household humidity is usually okay, but appreciates moderate to higher humidity.

Temperature: Keep warm and away from cold drafts. Ideal range is about 18–27°C.

Soil: Use a light, chunky, well-draining potting mix. A tropical houseplant mix with orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, or charcoal works well.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer.

Pruning: Remove yellow or damaged leaves as needed. Support climbing growth with a moss pole or plant stake if desired.

Repotting: Repot when the plant becomes root-bound or when the soil is no longer draining well.
