Philodendron ‘Red Congo Dwarf Mint’ is a rare and eye-catching tropical houseplant prized for its compact growth habit and beautiful minty-green/pink new foliage. Emerging leaves often display soft shades of pink, mint, cream, and light green before maturing, while the sturdy stems retain the rich colouring inherited from its Red Congo lineage.

Size and Growth

Red Congo Dwarf Mint has a compact, self-heading growth habit, meaning it grows upright rather than trailing or climbing. It remains smaller than standard Red Congo varieties, making it perfect for shelves, tabletops, or as an elegant accent plant.

Pet Friendliness

This plant is toxic to pets. It contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause oral irritation, drooling, and difficulty swallowing if ingested by cats or dogs. It's advisable to keep this plant out of reach of pets.

Care Instructions

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too little light will slow growth and reduce leaf size, while harsh direct sunlight can scorch the foliage.

Watering: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy, and always ensure the pot has good drainage. Reduce watering in winter.

Humidity: Average household humidity is usually sufficient, but moderate to higher humidity will encourage larger leaves and more vigorous growth.

Temperature: Maintain a warm environment between 18°C–27°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.

Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir. This allows air circulation and prevents root rot.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer. Reduce feeding during fall and winter.

Pruning: Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves at the base to encourage healthy new growth.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Provide a sturdy support like a moss pole to promote upright growth and mature leaf development.
