Philodendron ‘Persimmon Princess’ is a striking collector philodendron prized for its unusual, ever-changing colour. New leaves can emerge in rich shades of burgundy, copper, persimmon-orange and red, often accented with splashes and sectors of vibrant pink. As the foliage matures, the colours gradually deepen toward dark green while retaining beautiful pink and peach variegation.

No two leaves are quite the same, making every new leaf an event! With its deep burgundy stems and dramatic variegation, Persimmon Princess makes a gorgeous statement plant and becomes even more impressive as it climbs and matures.

Size and Growth

Size: Indoors, can grow 2–4 feet (60–120 cm) tall with support.

Growth: Mature leaves may reach 6–9 inches in length, with variegation patterns intensifying as the plant grows. A moss pole or trellis will encourage upward growth and larger leaves.

Pet Friendliness

This plant is toxic to pets. It contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause oral irritation, drooling, and difficulty swallowing if ingested by cats or dogs. It's advisable to keep this plant out of reach of pets.

Care Instructions

Light: Provide bright, indirect light to maintain strong pink variegation. Too little light can reduce colour, while too much direct sun may scorch the leaves.

Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Overwatering can cause root rot, while underwatering may lead to crispy leaf edges.

Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity (60%+). Use a humidifier or pebble tray if needed.

Temperature: Ideal range is 18°C–27°C. Protect from drafts and cold conditions below 15°C.

Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing perlite, orchid bark, and peat or coco coir.

Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Pause fertilizing in fall and winter.

Pruning: Remove faded or damaged leaves as needed. Pruning leggy vines can promote fuller, bushier growth.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or once root-bound. Provide a moss pole or stake to support climbing.

Pro Tip: To encourage the most vibrant pink variegation, place your plant in consistent bright, indirect light and avoid cutting leaves with strong variegation—propagating green-dominant stems can sometimes reduce pink patterns in new growth.
