Size

The Philodendron billietiae variegated is a rare and extraordinary collector’s plant celebrated for its elongated, glossy leaves streaked with vibrant patterns of creamy white, yellow, and lime-green variegation. Each leaf is a masterpiece, with unique marbling that contrasts beautifully against the rich emerald background. Native to the tropical rainforests of French Guiana, Brazil, and Guyana, this climbing philodendron is admired for its elegant, arching leaves and striking orange petioles. The variegated form takes this already dramatic species to a whole new level of beauty and exclusivity.

Size and Growth

Size: When grown indoors with proper support, the Philodendron billietiae variegated can reach 3–6 feet (90–180 cm) tall.

Growth: Mature leaves can grow up to 18–24 inches (45–60 cm) long, developing more vivid variegation and texture over time. Its climbing nature benefits from a moss pole or totem, which encourages larger and more vibrant leaves.

Pet Friendliness

This plant is toxic to pets. It contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause oral irritation, drooling, and difficulty swallowing if ingested by cats or dogs. It's advisable to keep this plant out of reach of pets.

Care Instructions

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to enhance variegation. Too little light may fade colours, while direct sunlight can scorch the leaves.

Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry before watering. Water thoroughly and ensure excess drains away. Reduce watering in winter.

Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (60–80%). Consider using a humidifier or pebble tray to maintain lush foliage.

Temperature: Keep between 18°C–27°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.

Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir to promote airflow around the roots.

Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Pause fertilizing in fall and winter.

Pruning: Remove yellow or damaged leaves as needed to maintain a clean, healthy plant.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when root-bound. Provide a climbing support such as a moss pole to encourage vertical growth and mature foliage.
