A juvenile Olive Tree is a charming little Mediterranean plant with slender silvery-green leaves and a timeless, rustic look.
Olive Trees are sun-loving plants that prefer bright light, excellent drainage, and a little patience. While they can eventually grow into large trees outdoors in the right climate, young potted Olive Trees make beautiful indoor accent plants when given enough light.
Size and Growth:
Olive trees will stay small and compact for quite some time. Growth is usually slow to moderate indoors, especially if light is limited.
With strong light and proper care, it can gradually develop a stronger woody stem and fuller branching. It may eventually need to be moved into a larger pot as it matures.

Care Instructions:
Light: Prefers very bright light and does best with several hours of direct sun. A south or west-facing window is ideal. If grown indoors without enough light, it may become sparse or drop leaves.
Watering: Allow the soil to dry out well between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess water drain away. Olive Trees do not like sitting in wet soil and are much happier slightly dry than constantly damp.
Humidity: Does well in average household humidity and does not need extra humidity. Avoid placing it in overly damp or humid areas.
Temperature: Prefers warm, bright conditions and good airflow. Protect from freezing temperatures, cold drafts, and sudden temperature changes. In colder climates, keep it indoors through winter.
Soil: Use a gritty, very well-draining soil mix. A cactus/succulent mix with added perlite, pumice, or sand works well. Good drainage is especially important in a small pot.
Fertilizer: Feed lightly during spring and summer with a diluted balanced fertilizer. Avoid heavy feeding, especially while the plant is young or during the slower winter months.
Pruning: Prune lightly to shape the plant and encourage branching. Remove any dead, weak, or crossing growth as needed. Young Olive Trees can be shaped over time as they mature.
Repotting: Repot when the plant becomes rootbound or dries out too quickly between waterings. Move up only one pot size at a time and always use a pot with drainage.
Pro Tip: Olive Trees want sunshine more than fussing. Give your little Olive Tree the brightest spot you have, let the soil dry between waterings, and avoid treating it like a tropical houseplant. If it gets leggy or drops leaves indoors, it is usually asking for more light.
