Key Features

Pitchers can grow 6" to 24" tall, depending on the species. Plants grow from a central rhizome and will go dormant in the winter before reawakening with new vigor in spring.

Care Instructions

Light: Needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. A bright south- or west-facing window, or full-spectrum grow light, is ideal.

Watering: Only water with distilled, rainwater, or reverse-osmosis water. Keep the soil wet at all times—these are true bog plants!

Humidity: Appreciates high humidity but tolerates average indoor levels if watered properly.

Temperature: Thrives in 18–28°C during the growing season. Needs a cold dormancy around 2–10°C from late fall to early spring.

Soil: Must be planted in a nutrient-free medium—a 50/50 mix of peat moss and perlite or long-fiber sphagnum moss. Never use potting soil or fertilizer.

Feeding: Outdoors, it catches its own food. Indoors, it may benefit from the occasional bug. Don’t overfeed—1 or 2 bugs per month is enough. Never use meat or processed food.

Dormancy: Vital for long-term health. Reduce watering slightly and place in a cool area with less light from late fall through winter. Resume full care in early spring.

Pro Tip: Let it sit in a tray of distilled water during the growing season to keep soil evenly saturated and mimic its natural wetland environment.
