Monstera Lechleriana Albo - Exact Plant

The Monstera lechleriana ‘Albo Variegata’ is a striking collector Monstera with long, glossy green leaves splashed and streaked with creamy white variegation. As the plant matures and begins to climb, its leaves become larger and may develop distinctive elongated fenestrations close to the central vein.

Compared with the more familiar Monstera adansonii, M. lechleriana has a heavier, more substantial growth habit and tends to develop its fenestrations later. The species naturally grows as a climbing hemiepiphyte in wet tropical forests from Panama through parts of South America. 

Key Features:

Monstera lechleriana is a climbing aroid and will produce progressively larger leaves when given something sturdy to climb. A moss pole, plank or other vertical support encourages more mature growth.

Indoors, growth is generally moderate, although highly variegated plants may grow more slowly because the white portions of the leaves contain little or no chlorophyll. 

Pet Friendliness:

Not pet-friendly.  It contains calcium oxalates, which can be toxic to cats, dogs, and other pets if ingested. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.

Care Instructions:

Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch its variegated delicate leaves.

Watering: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot. Ensure proper drainage.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (50% or more). Mist regularly or use a humidifier for best growth.

Temperature: Best kept in temperatures between 18–29°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 13°C.

Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a blend of peat, perlite, and orchid bark.

Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.

Pruning: Trim leggy vines to encourage bushier growth and maintain a fuller shape.
