The Monstera Deliciosa is a beloved tropical houseplant renowned for its iconic, large, fenestrated leaves that add a dramatic and stylish flair to any space. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, this plant thrives in indoor environments and makes a stunning centerpiece with its lush, green foliage. Its fast-growing nature and unique beauty make it a favorite among plant enthusiasts and interior designers alike.
Size and Growth:
Indoors, the Monstera Deliciosa can grow to 6-8 feet tall with proper care, while outdoors in tropical climates, it can climb and spread to heights of 10-15 feet or more. The leaves can grow up to 2-3 feet wide, adding a bold, tropical aesthetic. Its aerial roots allow it to climb, making it perfect for a moss pole or trellis. The Monstera starts out with juvenile leaves, but in short time it will mature to produce it's famous fenestrated cut-out leaves. Our 4" Monsteras come with 2-3 individual plants per pot.
Pet Friendliness:
The Monstera Deliciosa is toxic to pets if ingested, as it contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation to the mouth and digestive system. Keep it out of reach of cats and dogs to ensure their safety.
Care Instructions:
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch its leaves. It can tolerate lower light levels but will grow more slowly.
Watering: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot. Monsteras enjoy consistent moisture but do not like soggy soil.
Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (50-60% or more). Consider misting the leaves, using a humidifier, or placing a tray of water nearby to maintain moisture levels.
Temperature: Grows best in warm temperatures between 18-29°C. Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C.
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A mix designed for tropical plants works well.
Fertilizer: Feed every 4-6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer. Reduce feeding in fall and winter when growth slows.
Pruning: Trim back any yellowing or damaged leaves to maintain its appearance and encourage healthy growth.
Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant outgrows its container. Providing a moss pole or trellis helps it climb and display its full potential.
Pro Tip: Monsteras love to climb! Adding a moss pole encourages upward growth and larger, more fenestrated leaves.
