Hoya latifolia ‘Albomarginata’

Hoya latifolia ‘Albomarginata’ is a striking collector Hoya known for its large, thick leaves surrounded by beautiful cream-to-white variegated margins. The broad, substantial foliage gives this Hoya a bold tropical appearance, while each leaf develops its own unique balance of green and creamy variegation.

New growth may emerge with soft pink or rosy tones before gradually maturing to green and cream. As the plant matures, it can also produce clusters of classic waxy, star-shaped Hoya flowers, making it an impressive addition to any Hoya collection.

Care Instructions

Light: Bright, indirect light is best for maintaining strong growth and vibrant golden variegation. A little gentle morning or evening sun may be beneficial, but avoid harsh afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the lighter areas.

Watering: Allow the growing mix to dry mostly between waterings. Water thoroughly, allow excess water to drain, and never leave the pot sitting in water.

Humidity: Average household humidity is generally suitable, although moderate to higher humidity can encourage stronger growth and healthy new foliage.

Temperature: Keep warm and protected from cold drafts. An indoor temperature range of approximately 18–27°C is ideal.

Soil: Use a loose, chunky, and well-draining growing mix. A Hoya or aroid-style blend containing orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and a small amount of moisture-retentive potting medium works well.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced houseplant or orchid fertilizer. Reduce feeding when growth slows during the cooler months.

Pruning: Trim only as needed to control the vines or remove damaged growth. Avoid removing established flower spurs, as Hoyas may bloom repeatedly from the same points.

Repotting: Repot only when necessary. Hoyas often prefer being slightly snug in their containers, so choose a pot only slightly larger than the existing one and make sure it has drainage holes.

Pro Tip: Give Latifolia plenty of bright indirect light to maintain its vibrant inner variegation. A climbing support can also help it mature and produce the large, heavily textured leaves for which Hoya latifolia is known.
