The Hoya Krinkle Kurl, also known as Hoya Hindu Rope, is a lush, low-maintenance trailing plant prized for its thick, waxy leaves featuring deep dimples or “krinkles.” Each leaf has a unique, rippled texture and is shaped similarly to traditional Hoya carnosa, but with pronounced curves that give this cultivar its name. With time, it produces clusters of fragrant, star-shaped pink flowers—adding both visual and aromatic appeal to your indoor jungle.
Key Features
This Hoya is a slow to moderate grower that can trail or climb up to several feet indoors with the right support. Its vining habit makes it ideal for hanging baskets, shelves, or training along a trellis. New growth emerges in long tendrils that will eventually leaf out and, with maturity, bloom.
Pet-Friendliness
Non-toxic to pets. Safe for cats and dogs, making it a great choice for pet-friendly homes.
Care Instructions
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its vibrant variegation. Can tolerate some direct morning sunlight but avoid harsh afternoon sun.
Water: Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. Hoyas prefer to be on the drier side—overwatering can lead to root rot.
Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity but adapts well to average household conditions.
Temperature: Ideal range is 18–27°C. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Soil: Well-draining, light, and airy mix (a combination of orchid bark, perlite, and peat moss works well).
Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted, balanced houseplant fertilizer. Hold off on feeding during the winter.
Flowering: When mature, it produces fragrant, pink star-shaped flowers in clusters. To encourage blooms, provide plenty of light and avoid moving the plant once buds appear.
Pruning: Prune long vines to maintain shape or encourage fuller growth. Do not remove flower spurs after blooming—new flowers often return on the same stem.
Repotting: Hoyas prefer to be slightly root-bound. Repot only every 2–3 years or when absolutely necessary, using a pot with good drainage.
Pro Tip: If your Hoya receives ample light and is slightly root-bound, it’s more likely to produce its signature fragrant blooms. Be patient—Hoyas take time to mature but reward consistent care beautifully.
