Goldfish Plant (Nematanthus gregarius)

Key Features:

Goldfish plants can trail or mound up to 2–3 feet (60–90 cm) over time. They grow in a lush, compact form and produce flowers in bright conditions with the right care.

Pet Friendliness:

The plant is pet-friendly!  It is non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Care Instructions:

Light: Bright, indirect light is best. It will tolerate medium light but may not bloom as well. Avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch the leaves.

Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.

Humidity: Loves humidity! Mist regularly or place near a humidifier—especially in winter.

Temperature: Prefers warm temps between 18°C–26°C. Avoid cold drafts and temps below 13°C.

Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. African violet soil works great.

Fertilizer: Feed every 2–4 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.

Pruning: Trim after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound. Goldfish Plants bloom more when slightly pot-bound.

Pro Tip: To encourage flowering, place your Goldfish Plant in a bright spot and reduce watering slightly in winter to mimic its natural rest period.
