Fire Flash Plant (Chlorophytum orchidastrum)

The Fire Flash, also known as Chlorophytum orchidastrum, is a show-stopping tropical with bright neon-orange stems that look as if they’re glowing from within. Its broad, deep green leaves grow in a symmetrical rosette, creating a bold contrast that instantly draws the eye. Unlike its spider plant cousin, the Fire Flash is prized for its striking foliage and upright, fountain-like shape. A true tropical gem that’s as unique as it is easy to grow.

Size and Growth:

Fire Flash plant grows up to 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) tall and wide indoors. Their strong form and vibrant colours make them perfect for side tables, plant stands, or grouped in a tropical arrangement.

Pet Friendliness:

Mildly toxic to pets if ingested. While not highly dangerous, it may cause stomach upset. Keep out of reach of curious cats or dogs.

Care Instructions:

Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Can tolerate medium light but the orange stems are most vibrant in brighter conditions.

Watering: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Don’t let the plant sit in water—ensure proper drainage.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Regular misting or grouping with other plants will help keep it happy, especially in winter.

Temperature: Enjoys warmth—ideal range is 18°C–27°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 12°C.

Soil: Use a well-draining tropical or houseplant potting mix.

Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength.

Pruning: Trim older leaves at the base to maintain the plant’s shape and encourage fresh growth.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound. 

Propagation: The plant may produce offsets at the base over time. Separate and repot the pups for new plants.
