The Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrata) is a bold, sculptural houseplant known for its large, violin-shaped leaves and upright growth habit. With its dramatic foliage and modern aesthetic, it has become one of the most iconic and stylish indoor plants. Native to the tropical rainforests of West Africa, this beauty thrives in bright interiors and adds instant elegance and height to any room.

Size and Growth

The Fiddle Leaf Fig can grow several feet tall indoors, often reaching heights of 3–6 feet (90–180 cm) or more with proper care. It features thick, leathery leaves with prominent veins and a glossy finish. Growth is upright and columnar, making it an excellent choice for bright corners or as a statement plant in open spaces.

Pet Friendliness

Fiddle Leaf Fig is toxic to pets if ingested. It contains sap that may cause oral irritation and gastrointestinal upset in cats or dogs. Keep out of reach of pets and small children.

Care Instructions

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct morning sun but avoid harsh afternoon rays. Low light may result in dropped leaves and stunted growth.

Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry before watering. Water thoroughly and let excess drain. Avoid overwatering or allowing the plant to sit in water.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. If your home is dry, consider misting the leaves or placing the plant near a humidifier.

Temperature: Keep in a warm room between 18°C–27°C. Avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature changes, which can shock the plant.

Soil: Use a rich, well-draining potting mix. A peat-based soil with perlite or sand works well to prevent waterlogging.

Fertilizer: Feed once a month in spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.

Pruning: Remove damaged or lower leaves as needed. You can prune the top to control height and encourage branching.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when root-bound. Choose a pot with good drainage and go up one size at a time.

Pro Tip: Rotate your Fiddle Leaf Fig every few weeks so it grows evenly and upright. Dust the leaves regularly to keep them glossy and allow better light absorption.
