Size

Ficus triangularis variegata is a charming tropical houseplant known for its unique triangle-shaped leaves edged in creamy white. Its bright variegation and tidy, tree-like growth habit make it a beautiful statement plant for a shelf, plant stand, or bright corner. It has a more delicate look than many other ficus varieties, but with consistent care, it can be a rewarding and eye-catching addition to your plant collection.

Key Features

Ficus triangularis variegata grows as a small indoor shrub or tree and can reach approximately 2–6 feet tall indoors over time. It has a moderate growth rate in bright conditions, though it may grow more slowly than solid green ficus varieties because of its variegation.

Pet Friendliness

The Ficus is toxic to pets if ingested. It contains compounds that may cause irritation or gastrointestinal discomfort in cats and dogs. Keep out of reach of pets.

Care Instructions

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Good light helps maintain the creamy variegation. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves, but a little gentle morning sun is usually fine.

Watering: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.

Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity. Average indoor levels are fine, but occasional misting can help in drier environments.

Temperature: Maintain between 18°C–27°C. Avoid cold drafts, air conditioners, or sudden temperature drops.

Soil: Use a well-draining mix containing peat, perlite, and compost or bark to promote root aeration.

Fertilizer: Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Do not fertilize in winter.

Pruning: Prune to shape and remove leggy or damaged branches. Regular pruning encourages a fuller canopy.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when roots outgrow the container. Choose a pot one size larger with proper drainage holes.

Pro Tip: Prefers consistency—keep it in a bright spot and avoid moving it frequently, as relocation can cause leaf drop. Wipe leaves regularly to remove dust and help the plant photosynthesize efficiently.
