The Euphorbia lactea ‘Cristata’, also known as Crested or Coral Euphorbia, is a rare and sculptural succulent prized for its fan-shaped, wavy crests. Each crest is grafted onto a hardy Euphorbia Nerifoli rootstock, giving it a unique, tree-like appearance. With its vibrant shades of green, silver, and sometimes pink edges, this striking plant looks like a living piece of coral, making it a conversation-starting centerpiece for any plant collection.

Key Features

The Crested Euphorbia typically reaches 6–12 inches (15–30 cm) tall and may grow wider at the crest over time. Its slow growth and unusual structure make it ideal for display on windowsills, shelves, or as a specimen piece.

Pet-Friendliness

Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. It produces a white, milky sap that can cause skin irritation or stomach upset if consumed. Handle with care and keep away from pets and children.

Care Instructions

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light and can tolerate some direct sunlight. Too little light may stunt growth, while intense sun may scorch the crest.

Watering: Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can quickly cause root rot, especially around the graft.

Humidity: Adaptable to average household humidity. Prefers dry to moderate conditions.

Temperature: Keep in warm temperatures between 18°C–27°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.

Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix. Ensure the pot has excellent drainage.

Fertilizer: Feed once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a cactus fertilizer diluted to half strength. Do not fertilize in winter.

Pruning: Minimal pruning is required. Remove any reverted green shoots from the rootstock to maintain the crest form.

Repotting: Repot only every 2–3 years, or if the plant outgrows its pot. Be careful not to damage the grafted union.
