Epiphyllum chrysocardium, commonly known as Shark Tooth Cactus, is a striking tropical cactus with long, flat, deeply cut leaves that resemble shark teeth or a fishbone pattern. Its bold trailing growth makes it a beautiful choice for hanging baskets, shelves, or anywhere its dramatic foliage can cascade.
Unlike desert cacti, this plant naturally grows in tropical environments, so it prefers bright indirect light, moderate watering, and a little extra humidity. Mature plants may produce large, fragrant white blooms when happy.
Key Features
Shark Tooth Cactus can grow long trailing stems over time and may become quite full in the right conditions. It is generally easygoing once established and grows best in a bright, warm location.
Pet-Friendliness

Non-toxic to pets – Safe for cats and dogs, making it a great addition to pet-friendly homes
Care Instructions
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some morning sun but avoid harsh, direct afternoon sunlight which can scorch its stems.
Water: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Keep evenly moist during the growing season but let it dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity. While tolerant of average indoor levels, it thrives in slightly more humid environments.
Temperature: Ideal range is 16–27°C. Protect from cold drafts and keep above 10°C.
Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or orchid mix—something airy to mimic its natural habitat in tree crevices.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted balanced fertilizer. Pause feeding in fall and winter.
Pruning: Minimal.
