Calathea ‘Misto’

Calathea Misto is an elegant tropical houseplant known for its glossy, oval leaves and soft, painted-looking pattern. Each leaf features deep green margins surrounding pale green or creamy brushstrokes that spread outward from the centre, while the undersides display rich purple tones.

As a member of the prayer plant family, its leaves may gently rise in the evening and lower again during the day. Its subtle colouring and full, upright shape make it a beautiful choice for shelves, plant stands, offices, or bright indoor spaces.

Size and Growth:

Calathea ‘Medallion’ is a compact grower, typically reaching 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) in height and width. Its lush, mounding habit makes it perfect for tabletops, shelves, or decorative pots in well-lit rooms.

Care Instructions:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade the vibrant colours or scorch the leaves. Tolerates lower light but may grow more slowly.

Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Use filtered or distilled water if your tap water is high in minerals.

Humidity: Loves high humidity (60%+). Use a humidifier, mist regularly, or place near a pebble tray to prevent crispy leaf edges.

Temperature: Ideal range is 18°C–26°C. Avoid cold drafts or sudden drops below 15°C.

Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A peat-based houseplant soil with added perlite works well.

Fertilizer: Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Hold off during winter months.

Pruning: Trim any damaged or yellowing leaves at the base to keep the plant looking tidy and encourage new growth.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when root-bound. Calatheas prefer to be slightly snug in their pots but benefit from fresh soil.
