Begonia Rex "Black Cherry”

Begonia Rex ‘Black Cherry’ is a compact foliage plant with deep cherry-red leaves edged in nearly black. Its bold colouring and ruffled texture make it a striking choice for shelves, tabletops, or mixed plant displays.

Key Features:

Size: Grows up to 12–18 inches tall and 12 inches wide, making it perfect for tabletops, shelves, or plant displays.

Growth: A moderate grower that thrives with proper care and attention to humidity.

Pet Friendliness:

The Begonia Rex is not pet-friendly.  It can be toxic to cats, dogs, and other pets if ingested. Keep it safely out of reach of pets and small children.

Care Instructions:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while low light may reduce its vibrant colors.

Watering: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Begonias are sensitive to overwatering, so ensure the pot has proper drainage to prevent root rot.

Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (50% or higher). Place near a humidifier or on a pebble tray to maintain humidity, especially in dry homes.

Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 16–24°C. Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a mix with peat, perlite, and compost for richness and aeration.

Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Skip feeding in fall and winter when growth slows.

Pruning: Remove any damaged or old leaves to encourage fresh growth and keep the plant looking tidy.
