Size and Growth

This begonia can reach up to 18–24 inches (45–60 cm) indoors with the right care. It has a bushy, upright habit and regularly produces new leaves that emerge with delicate blush tones before maturing into their dramatic polka-dot pattern.

Pet Friendliness:

The Begonia Maculata is not pet-friendly. It contains calcium oxalates, which are toxic if ingested by cats, dogs, or other pets. Be sure to keep it out of reach of your furry friends.

Care Instructions:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light may cause fading or leaf drop.

Watering: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering and ensure excess moisture can drain—Begonias are prone to root rot.

Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (50–70%). Mist regularly or place near a humidifier, especially during dry months.

Temperature: Maintain indoor temps between 18°C–27°C. Keep away from drafts and temperature drops below 15°C.

Soil: Use a light, well-draining mix—peat-based potting soil with added perlite or sand works well.

Fertilizer: Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer. Avoid over-fertilizing.

Pruning: Trim leggy or damaged stems to encourage bushier growth and maintain shape. Pinching the tips can also promote fullness.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years in spring, or when roots begin to outgrow the pot.

Pro Tip: Avoid letting water sit on the leaves, as this can lead to spotting or mildew. Water the soil directly and provide good air circulation.
