The Anthurium ‘Dorayaki’ is a rare and highly sought-after hybrid of Anthurium crystallinum and Anthurium clarinervium known for its thick, round, velvety leaves and striking silver veining. Its compact growth and almost perfectly circular foliage give it a soft, sculptural look—resembling the shape of a traditional dorayaki pastry, which inspired its name. With its deep green tones, plush texture, and subtle shimmer, this anthurium is a standout collector’s plant that brings both elegance and uniqueness to any indoor plant collection.
Size and Growth
Size: Remains relatively compact, typically growing 8–14 inches (20–35 cm) tall and wide.
Growth: Its slow growth rate and clumping habit make it perfect for shelves, display cabinets, or small-space plant styling. With proper care, it will steadily produce new leaves, each one slightly larger and more defined than the last.
Pet Friendliness
Caution: Anthurium ‘Dorayaki’ is toxic to pets if ingested. It contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation, drooling, or vomiting. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.
Care Instructions
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the velvety leaves. Too low of light may slow growth.
Watering: Keep soil lightly moist but not soggy. Allow the top 1–2 inches to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid letting the plant sit in water.
Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (70%+). Best grown with a humidifier or in a cabinet-style environment for optimal leaf development.
Temperature: Maintain between 18°C–27°C (65°F–80°F). Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 16°C (60°F).
Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir for airflow and moisture balance.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
Pruning: Remove any damaged or yellowing leaves to maintain plant health and appearance.
Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when root-bound. Choose a pot with excellent drainage.
