The Anthurium crystallinum is a true showstopper, beloved for its velvety, heart-shaped leaves and bold, silvery-white veining. Native to Central and South America, this tropical stunner brings a lush, sophisticated vibe to any indoor space. Its dramatic foliage and shimmering surface texture make it a standout choice for collectors and interior design enthusiasts alike.
Key Features:
Anthurium crystallinum is a moderate grower that typically reaches 12–24 inches (30–60 cm) tall indoors. As it matures, the leaves grow larger and more vividly veined, adding to the plant’s striking appearance. Given the right conditions, it may even produce pale green inflorescences, although it's grown mainly for its foliage.
Pet Friendliness:
Anthuriums are toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of animals and children due to calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation.
Care Instructions:
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight may burn the leaves, while too little light can dull leaf colour and slow growth.
Watering: Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Avoid letting it fully dry out or sit in standing water.
Humidity: Loves high humidity (60–80%). Use a humidifier, mist regularly, or place near a pebble tray to maintain moisture levels.
Temperature: Thrives in warm environments between 18°C–27°C. Keep away from cold drafts or temperatures below 15°C.
Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining mix such as a blend of orchid bark, perlite, coco coir, and a bit of potting soil to support airflow and moisture control.
Fertilizer: Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
Pruning: Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves at the base to redirect energy to new growth.
Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when root-bound. Choose a pot with drainage and refresh soil with a suitable aroid mix.
Pro Tip: Wipe the leaves regularly with a damp cloth to keep the velvety surface looking its best and allow the plant to breathe more easily.
