Size

Anthurium ‘Ace of Spades’ is one of the most iconic collector anthuriums, prized for its rich, velvety foliage and dramatic heart-shaped leaves. The standard form develops deep green to nearly black leaves with prominent veins and a luxurious, satin-like texture that only becomes more impressive with age.

As the plant matures, each new leaf grows larger and more dramatic, making this an exceptional statement piece for any rare plant collection.

Size and Growth

Ace of Spades has an upright, clumping growth habit and is considered a moderate grower under ideal conditions. While young plants are compact, mature specimens can develop impressively large foliage with proper warmth, humidity, and consistent care.

Pet Friendliness

Caution: Anthurium are toxic to pets if ingested. It contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation, drooling, or vomiting. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.

Care Instructions

LightBright, indirect light is best. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the velvety leaves.

WateringWater when the top portion of the soil begins to dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged.

HumidityAce of Spades thrives in moderate to high humidity. While it can adapt to average household humidity, higher humidity encourages larger leaves and healthier growth.

TemperatureKeep warm and away from cold drafts. Ideal range is about 18–28°C.

SoilUse a light, chunky, well-draining aroid mix. A blend of orchid bark, perlite, coco coir or peat, and horticultural charcoal provides excellent drainage while retaining enough moisture for healthy roots.

FertilizerFeed every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength.

PruningRemove yellow or damaged leaves at the base as needed. Wipe the leaves occasionally to remove dust and maintain their velvety appearance.

RepottingRepot every 1–2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one and ensure excellent drainage.
