Alocasia macrorrhiza ‘Camouflage’ is a bold tropical houseplant with large, arrow-shaped leaves patterned in beautiful shades of green, cream, olive, and khaki. Its variegation gives each leaf a unique camo-like look, making it a standout choice for collectors and anyone who loves unusual foliage.

This plant brings instant jungle drama to a space and can become a real statement piece as it matures. With bright indirect light, warmth, and steady moisture, Alocasia ‘Camouflage’ can grow large, impressive leaves that show off its striking patterned colouration.

Size and Growth:

Alocasia macrorrhiza ‘Camouflage’ is a large-growing Alocasia with an upright habit. Mature plants can produce tall stems and oversized leaves, giving the plant a bold, architectural shape.

Growth is usually strongest during spring and summer. Like many Alocasias, it may slow down or drop older leaves during the cooler months, especially if light, warmth, or humidity decreases.

Pet Friendliness:

Not pet safe.

Care Instructions:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Because of its variegation, it needs good light to support healthy growth and colouring. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves, especially the lighter sections.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, ensuring proper drainage to prevent root rot.

Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity. Extra humidity will help support larger, healthier leaves and reduce crispy edges. A humidifier, plant cabinet, or grouping with other tropical plants can be helpful in drier homes.

Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures between 18-29°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 13°C and protect it from cold drafts.

Soil: Use a well-draining, airy mix rich in organic matter. A blend of peat, perlite, and orchid bark works well to keep roots healthy.

Fertilizer: Feed every 2-3 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.

Pruning: Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to encourage healthy new growth.

Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years, or when roots outgrow the pot. Choose a container with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture retention.

Pro Tip:  Alocasias can be a little dramatic when conditions change. Yellowing leaves often point to watering issues, low light, or low humidity. Once it settles into the right spot, it rewards you with huge, show-stopping leaves.
