Alocasia Frydek

The Alocasia Frydek is a highly sought-after, rare houseplant known for its striking, velvety green leaves. With its exotic beauty and dramatic presence, the Frydek is perfect for plant collectors and indoor garden enthusiasts alike.

Key Features:

Size: Grows up to 2–3 feet tall indoors, with large arrow-shaped leaves reaching up to 12 inches long.

Growth: A moderate grower that thrives in the right balance of light, humidity, and warmth.

Pet Friendliness:

The Alocasia Frydek is not pet-friendly.  It contains calcium oxalates, which can be toxic to cats, dogs, and other pets if ingested. Place it in a safe spot away from curious pets and children.

Care Instructions:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the delicate leaves.

Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and ensure proper drainage to avoid root rot.

Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (60% or more). Use a humidifier, mist regularly, or place the plant near other humidity-loving plants.

Temperature: Prefers warm conditions between 18–27°C. Keep away from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.

Soil: Use a well-draining, chunky potting mix, such as a blend of orchid bark, peat, and perlite, to promote healthy root aeration.

Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Hold off feeding in fall and winter.

Pruning: Trim off any damaged or yellowing leaves to encourage healthy growth and maintain its stunning appearance.

Pests: Alocasia are prone to spider mite infestations. Ensure you treat your plant regularly with neem oil and/or insecticidal soap, or a commercial pest spray.
