Maidenhair Fern is an elegant tropical fern loved for its delicate, fan-shaped leaflets and fine, dark stems. Its soft, airy foliage creates a graceful, almost lace-like appearance, making it a beautiful choice for bathrooms, terrariums, plant stands, or other humid indoor spaces.
Key Features:
Maidenhair Fern has a compact, clumping growth habit with arching fronds that emerge from the base. It generally remains manageable indoors but can develop into a full, rounded plant under favourable conditions.
New fronds may emerge in lighter shades of green before deepening in colour as they mature.
Pet Friendliness:

The plant is pet-friendly! It is non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Care Instructions:
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate medium light. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the fronds.
Water: Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry. Keep the soil lightly moist, but not soggy. Water when the surface of the soil just begins to feel slightly dry. Heart Ferns do not tolerate prolonged drought, but they also dislike sitting in water.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity, though it can adapt to average household humidity better than many ferns. Extra humidity will encourage fuller, healthier growth.
Temperature: Keep in average household temperatures and protect from cold drafts, heat vents, and sudden temperature changes.
Soil: Use a light, well-draining potting mix that holds some moisture without becoming compacted. A mix with bark, perlite, and a moisture-retaining base works well.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Avoid over-fertilizing, as ferns are sensitive to excess salts.
Pruning: Remove any yellow, crispy, or damaged fronds at the base to keep the plant looking fresh and encourage new growth.
Repotting: Repot when the roots begin filling the container or the soil dries unusually quickly. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one, with good drainage.
Pro Tip: Maidenhair Fern does not appreciate drying out. Check the soil regularly and water before it becomes dry. If some fronds turn crispy, trim them at the base and continue providing consistent moisture—healthy roots may produce fresh new growth.
